Romerias are the most typical feast day activity in Tenerife and are directly linked to the Saints Days of the Catholic Church. Dressed in traditional costumes, the people of Tenerife follow the statue of the patron saint of their town or city as it is marched along in the procession, accompanied by elaborately decorated floats pulled by oxen. Between folk songs and dancing, to the rhythm of traditional performers, the processions wind through the streets under the watchful gaze of an audience that always turns out in large numbers.
